  A Loss
"Teaching was the hardest work I had ever done, and it remains the hardest work I have done to date."

"I have a real soft spot in my heart for librarians and people who care about books."

"I feel very strongly that change is good because it stirs up the system."

Ann Richards, 1933-2006

I'm very sad to have lost her. She was cool.

Today I was listening to a story on NPR about Karl Rove's whisper campaign to make Texas voters think she was a dyke to discredit her in the governor's race. She didn't answer the "accusations" because she didn't want to give them any legitimacy. I thought that was noble of her. Unfortunately, it still lost her the election.

Right on, CP. I'd almost rather she have lost than have won and had to compromise her principles. Of course, keeping her principles lost her the power. Damn.
